Forks bent?

I slipped on my hyosung GT250R on wet road. The bike did not hit anything, but when i got the bike up, I couldnt steer the bike straight, the whell only could go to the left.

Well, the arm bar is straight, but the wheels are facing to the left, and i cant get it going to the right. Would that mean i have a bent forks?? and how can i fix it (without loosing alot of money)??

Need to vent.

I guess I need to vent for the first time before I drive myself insane! first accident :(

As I was driving home a car decided to merge into my lane as the intersection to turn right became clogged and he just merged into me :( Luckily I was only going 50, gave it abit of throttle to stop myself from sliding, at the time it seemed the most appropriate action but now I don't know. Never felt so much pain before its too bad I didn't get his number plates. My poor bike has scratches to the RH side fairings and I have a few bruising hopefully my ankle is fine but atm I can't move it properly :S

I wish my cat could do this!

SUMMARY

Motorcycle fatalities resulting from roadside barriers crashes are low at around 5-6% which is around 14 per year nation wide of 238 fatalities.

Guardrail impacts are the most dangerous. Only 1 wire-rope rider impact found in WA � excessive speed striking another vehicle
before striking barrier. Most likely died on impact with vehicle.

Concrete barrier impacts can also be dangerous but very low �4 fatalities

Guardrail impacts are the most dangerous and often struck.

Wire-rope impacts are rare. 70 �80% reduction in road fatalities wherever installed which is why they are being installed.

Solutions exist to reduce motorcycle fatalities � but credible science must be used so as not to effect all road users and gains to date.

Just curious, I recently joined a motorcycle social group, many of which ride cruisers like myself, however I find I'm uncomfortable maintaining the speed that the average rider maintains, particularly in corners and windey stuff. Apart from arriving way behind the others, I feel I'm not enjoying the ride as much as when I ride solo and set my own speed (90kms on average). I'm returning to riding after a long hiatus but I didn't ride fast back then either (and never took a spill in 15 years of riding). Should I persist or find a scooter club?

This is NR Pinx, fully focussed on where she should be (Notice Helmet), even though she got a somewhat startling surprise while ripping (oops!, I mean tootling) through this corner.

You hear riders go on and on about it to new riders, all the time...and just maybe it starts to become "blah blah blah"...
Well, this photo clearly demonstrates ONE good reason to do it - SR (survival reaction) avoidance...staying focussed on where you are going.

About once a year ALDI sell bike gear, cheap. It's on again next week.

Can't really comment on the quality as all I have ever bought was gloves. I initially didn't like them and chucked them aside but as other gloves wore out I pulled them out again and now use them. They seem warm and waterproof although, in the style I got, a little narrow on the cuff.

On special will be long and short jackets for $99; pants for $79; 2 piece rain suit for $50; gloves $40, helmet $79 and GPS for $200 with blue tooth head set.

Typical! They have had tank bags every other year and now I want one they don't.

Read a few threads lately where there have been ride incidents on the road with no help coming from cagers. Lowercase's stack and the Rocket111 that Screwball dropped are a couple.

Is society really becoming that of the 'step over you if you're in my way?'

When I ploughed my Boulevard into the side of a Falcon on Sydney Rd 3 years back, I had about 6 carloads of people helping. Tradie rang the mrs of the day, someone found a blanket to drape me in, a mother with questioning kids in tow was asking about where the pain was and another was on the ohone to the police / ambos. I believe someone else was looking after the Falcon driver who was distressed.

So it surprises me that there are those who just look the other way. a real shame esp in Australian where I thought you could expect a hand. Maybe indicatave of the Americanisation of the country or possibly just a 'screw you, Jack' kind of attitude.

If that's the way the place is going I reckon it's sad.

If anyone around the Fortitude Valley area saw this happen last on Tuseday (27th) can you please let me know ?
Bit of a long shot that someone here was actually walking past when this happened, but it's worth a try.

Who ever knocked the bikes over didn't leave a note. I hope the culprit is going to enjoy their tax return,
because I am about to lose half of mine to insurance excess.

What gets me is that this was done by someone that rides a bike ( we think it was a scooter ), and secondly, no attempt was made
to right the bikes or contact us. If the culprit said .. " Sorry I pushed the bikes over. I don't have insurance,
but i'll pay for your excess" i would of been happy.

Anyone in the west who gets an EPA letter and needs a compliance certificate should give Fred Sharp a call, he's a top bloke who did me a solid and stuck the noise meter on my bike for free in return for a plug here in the forum. I now know whether or not I'll need to return to stock if a nasty letter does come (In this case it was just a test, no compliance certificate required).

If you do go down there for his service, make sure you mention Netrider - If enough people drop the site name he might even consider a future partner offer/discount for all members. ;)

Hey, I just had an accident on the rain with my Hyosung GT250R. Left mirror, left indicators and left foot pegs are broken off, the frame is fractured, and there is big scratch on the back seat. However, i noticed that i cant move the bike forward or turn the wheel to the right. The Front wheel seems to be more inwards, so it looks like the forks are bended. Would it be worthwile to spend time and money fixing the bike? if not, then what can i do??

Ok so basically the story goes..

Borrowed my old mans Rocket III this arvie to go for a ride down NSW border to drop something off for a mate.

I come to a set of lights and filter to the front, where the car at the front has left a massive gap, easily enough for another car in front of him. I think "thanks mate!" and zip in there.

Now, I figure it was the very low speed maneuvering to pull the bike up straight that did it, but basically I lost my balance. Normally this is fine as the Speedmaster is basically half the weight.

So the bike starts to tilt.. I'm thinking "Oh f**k this is not good".. I shift my weight to try and stand it up again, but that's not happening. Before I know it, the bike has (very slowly) laid down on my leg. I managed to drag my leg out from under the bike. I don't know why but I decided to scream the words "F**K IT!!" at the bike before trying to pick the thing up before the light went green.

Long story short, I somehow managed through strength borne of frustration and embarassement to pick the bike back up again. Total damage bill? Almost nothing thanks to the fact that it was such low impact. Bent gear shifter, that's it. And a slight scuff to the tail pipe.

It was a major set of lights and not a single person helped hahaha I think they were all quite happy to see the biker fall over :(

Anyway, that's my fun story for the night.

Hi, I'm just wondering if someone could please help me out here.

I'm looking for someone who could help me do a small job on my bike. It is backfiring and won't start so I'm assuming it is the carbs or spark plugs but I'm not good with bikes so I don't know how to fix it myself.

I know it is a big ask but is anyone willing to come and help me fix it please?

ADVICE: bike stolen, recovered, should I fix?

Hi guys,

Had my 1992 Suzuki Across stolen a few months ago it was recovered about a week later and I finally picked it up last week. I bought it for about $2600 about 2 years ago.

Damage: all the fairings gone, ignition stuffed, clutch lever missing, no mirrors, front indicators, front windshield etc, boot smashed into so now pretty stuffed (workable but has a hole so water would leak in), rear fuel lid bent (workable but bent), licence plate gone.

Bike shop said they got it going (jumped it) and it sounded to be running OK (but is a bit of an unknown) I'm guessing clutch probably stuffed? Anyway they said $540 to fix the ignition and put a clutch lever on, $180 for new mirrors and indicators then it is road legal just looks like a bomb haha! The looks don't REALLY bother me but resale possibilities do.

So say $700 to fix it up. I honestly don't think I could sell it for more than about $1K?

So my question is - is it worth fixing up, or am I better off putting that $700 aside, pulling the useful parts off and selling them (say $500) then taking the $1200 and putting towards a new bike? I have no sentimental attachment to the bike and really I just want a cheap bike to get around the city (Hobart) nothing flash.

So.. appreciate anyones thoughts.... thanks!

I have a Drider hurrican suite bought about 3 months ago, but its too small for me. Seemed ok when I tried it on, but not so good when I got my riding jacket on. Its too small for me so I just bought a 3XL version. Its almost new, been used 3-4 times now.

Cost me $110 new. Make an offer (reasonable) and its yours. Its no use to me.

Painted Areas on the road

Hi Guys and Gals,

Had a bit of a slip in the wet on the large patch of paint on the Gore Hill FWay which was indicating that my lane was entering a tunnel, the road marking was prob. about 2.5m x 4 m. I was in a slight lean and merging into the left lane when I rode across the painted section, I felt the tyres slip a tad, nothing too scary, but it threw me off line a little. I've seen the MotoGP riders hit the painted lines at speed and it isn't pretty.

Just wondering what your thoughts are on painted lines, zebra crossings and large patches of road markings such as those large turning arrows etc etc. Are they a genuine road hazzard??

Doing a Track Day at the Shanghai F1 Track

As some of you know, I'm now living in Shanghai, and the ability to get on a bike is non-existent unless you fancy getting run over by the 1.2 million taxis who pay ZERO attention to the road, and even at that it will be max capacity of 125cc.... Silly I know.

Anyyywayyy - been looking into how I get get back on two wheels and will be taking part in a track day next weekend and thought I'd share the details:

Seems a bit pricey, but going to do it anyway as a) its a F1 track and b) it's the only option.

Will get some pics and write up a full report for you all to see once done.

Would love to know if anyone has ridden here or has any bright suggestions about China and riding in general.
